Kingman Electro Spyder Repair

Here’s an interesting blast from the past! I’ve had this broken Kingman Spyder sitting in my cupboard for some years now.

The original Spyder was released in 1995 and is a simple blowback design (blowback markers use a hammer striking a poppet valve to both fire and re-cock the marker).

This particular later model Spyder has an electro frame that releases the hammer using a solenoid. The benefits of this include a lighter trigger pull, a higher rate of fire and different fire modes where legal.

Now the energy to fire the solenoid is stored in an electrolytic capacitor and it is this that had failed on this particular Spyder some years back. From memory it went off with quite a bang!

So I ordered a replacement 6800uf 10volt electrolytic capacitor and today’s job was to remove the circuit board from the grip frame and solder it in. Just remember that these capacitors are polarised so make sure to replace it in the same orientation as the original.
